What are the normal hours of operation?

All offices are open Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. Our office is closed on Friday. GHA closes for lunch from 12pm – 1pm daily. Someone is always at the front desk to assist you with your housing needs and concerns. You may contact customer service by calling 843-546-9621, ext. 221.


How do I apply for the housing programs?

If you are interested in applying for public housing, you can download the application, fill it out and follow the instructions, or call our office at 843-546-9621, ext. 221.


How long will I have to wait to get housing?

The amount of time varies depending on the number of applicants on the waiting list and the availability of housing. Generally, approved Public Housing applicants are housed in an average of six months to two years. Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) applicants can expect about a three to five-year wait.


How will I know if I am selected for housing?

Public Housing applicants will receive a letter notifying you of an available housing unit and ask that you contact us. It is very important that the information provided on the pre-application be kept current at all times as this is the only way we have to contact you. If you should relocate after making application, please contact the GHA Administration Office (P.O. Box 209, Georgetown, SC 29442; Phone: 843-546-9621, ext. 221, or Fax: 843-527-7536) to report your change of address.

Housing Choice Voucher applicants will receive a letter from GHA notifying you that your name is at the top of the waiting list. You will be given an appointment to come into the GHA office to complete an application and determine eligibility. What documents must I bring with me to apply for Public Housing?

You will be required to bring the following documents when you apply for housing:

  • Picture identification for everyone living in the household that is age 17 and older.
  • Social Security cards for all family members.
  • State issued birth certificates for all family members.

What are the income eligibility requirements for admission?
